FVFA's 5th annual Sturgeon Derby is back again this year! Come join us on October 21st 2023!
Last year was a huge success with over 340 participants. Cash prizes were given away as well as a fridge/freezer, a tv, gift cards, rods & reels, apparel, guided trips and so much more! You don't need a boat to enter this derby, shore anglers are welcome! Let's make this 5th annual derby bigger than last year, contact Scott Susin to register!
*We are accepting donations for giveaways and door prizes at this event, if you would like to donate anything and/or for more information, please contact Scott Susin*
(Partial proceeds will be donated to the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society)
Join us for a day of fishing on the banks of the mighty Fraser River. We will be fishing around 8:00am at Matsqui Beach located under the Mission - Abbotsford bridge on April 29th, 2023. We plan on fishing most of the day, so come by anytime.
Target species will be sturgeon but feel free to bring a rod for trout or white fish.
We have tents, tables and a BBQ, so bring something to eat and hang out for the day. FVFA will have some giveaways going on as well.
If you’re out fishing from a boat, come by and say hi. Look for the big tent and black FVFA banners at Matsqui Beach.
FVFA is excited and proud to announce that we will once again be at the BC Outdoors Tradeshow this year. Huge thanks to Mike Mitchell and Tyler McMinn for their continued support of FVFA.
The show is scheduled for Mar. 24-Mar. 26 and will be held at the Chilliwack Heritage Park (the big red barns).
See you then!
Calling All Shore Anglers!
With support from Loren Nicholas and Shorelord Rod Holders, we want to recognize and acknowledge sturgeon anglers whether they are in a boat or whether they are fishing from shore. Therefore we thought it would be a good idea to implement a prize for longest fish caught from shore.
The way it works is this. If you are planning on attending the derby and fishing from shore, you will indicate that you are fishing from shore prior to the derby. You must let myself or a volunteer know at the time of registration. We will record you as a shore angler and you will be eligible for the longest fish from shore prize (yet to be determined). The night before the derby, you will receive a "shore specific" graphic that you must use in your pictures of caught sturgeon.
NOTE: Shore anglers are also in the running for all other cash and prizes that will be offered throughout the day (first fish, longest fish overall, hidden lengths, secret item fish, etc etc). Your registration fee also enters you in to our wrap-up raffle.
Donation Alert!
Mike Mitchell over at BC Outdoor Sportfishing has donated a year subscription to their magazine, a pair of outdoor boots, a hat and a t-shirt to our event.
Mike and BCOSF have always been long time supporters of the derby and it’s great to see them supporting a local event such as ours. Mike has also been a wonderful source of information in regards to running the derby.
For all things outdoors, be it fishing, camping or hunting, check out BCOSF online;
You can also find his regular fishing TV show on Chek on Sunday mornings.
Thanks for the great donation and support Mike!

Ladies and gentleman, our friend Jacob Bergen, of Outfishing BC couldn't just donate a few OutfishingBC hoodies. Oh no, he had to raise the bar a little bit. Jacob is an incredibly passionate angler and loves nothing more than sharing that passion with others. With that being said, Jacob has donated probably the most valuable thing ever...his time.
Jacob is donating one walk and wade steelhead trip for one lucky angler and a guest, on the mighty Vedder River, come steelhead season. Jacob will show you the ropes, discuss fishing strategies, bait, casting, how to read the river, etc etc.
This is a first for the derby, and I'm ecstatic to see Jacob getting involved and wanting to give back to the community. Details of the walk and wade will be discussed between Jacob and the winning derby participant.
Amazing news Jacob, and thanks for the donation. To learn more about Jacob's fishing addiction, check out Outfishing BC on Facebook as well as the various other social media platforms.
Thanks again Jacob Bergen!

Hard at work promoting our upcoming derby in October, talking fishing and doing giveaways! We gaveaway a reel, t-shirts, free entries to the sturgeon derby, gift cards and more. Huge Congratulations to all those winners! FVFA loves to give back to the fishing community, check in for more giveaways in the future!
Recently, we just held a fishing social under the Mission/Abbotsford bridge where everyone was welcome! We fished, ate great food, chatted fishing and had a ton of laughs! Thank you to everyone who came out! We plan on holding more of these events and would love to have you join us next time, so check out our Facebook page or check back here for updates on our next event!
A few fish were caught at the fishing social and the kids had a ton of fun fishing and learning about them!
